Okay, for you folks out there who were brave enough to undertake the project of programming your Harmony Universal Remote. Here is a quick tip for getting your Zone 2 working properly. I’m going to save you hours of beating your head against the wall and long conversations with Harmony customer support with this one.
The challenge with Zone 2 configurations is that you are using the same components for 2 different activities. Your A/V receiver actually has 2 amplifiers in it. The Main 5.1 amp and the Zone 2 amp. Despite it being the same device, your Harmony Universal Remote remote will treat it as two devices. Which means that when you go to change activities or turn off the system while you are using Zone 2, a whole bundle of problems can arise. I’m not going to go into detail why these problems occur but I will tell you how you can fix them.
Get Rid of Zone 2
In the Harmony software go to the ACTIVITIES tab. You should see a list of activities like Listen to CD’s or Watch TV. Click on the first activity link that says SETTINGS. Next you should see a screen that says: “Select the Activity settings you would like to review or modify”. Select CHANGE OPTIONS and click NEXT. You should see a table of options. On option three that says: Turn Off Unused Devices, select LEAVE ON. Click SAVE and then click DONE. Follow these steps for every activity you have and any new activities you add in the future. Update your universal remote and wireless extender (if you have one) and you are done.
This will stop your remote from turning of Zone 2 every time you change activities and will solve a whole load of problems. Thanks for reading hope this helps.
